Help a Newbie - Basic Questions About ECU Tune

Postby mishkiz » Fri Sep 28, 2012 11:38 pm

Good afternoon my friends,

I want to start learning about ECU Tunning to apply it on my car, a Citroën C4 Coupe 2.0 16v (EW10A engine with Magneti Marelli IAW-6LPB injection).

Where do I start?

it is obvious that I will need the following
- tunning hardware - but which one is the best for my car?
- tunning software - ecuedit, I believe.
- learn how and what to change in ecuedit

I'm from Brazil, so probably will not find a good hardware to buy around here, so I'll have to import something (europe or usa).

PS: if this is not the correct place to post this type of question, you can move the topic elsewhere.

Thanks in advance!

Hy!

In the beginning it's really complicated. First you need the software from your ECU. For that, you need an OBD-Interface (like Galletto 1260), which you'll find for cheap on eBay e.g. If you have this, you should know which ECU is used on your car (Siemens, Bosch?), EDC15 / EDC16 and so on. You'll get a binary file from your car that you open with ecuedit.

I don't know ecuedit, but I think it only works on some japan vehicles, but I may be wrong. Most of tuners are using WinOLS. You can get a demo for free to learn about chiptuning, finding maps, ... you won't be able to save your projects nor using checksum corrections. Last one must be right - otherwise your car won't stop if you upload your modified file. All I want to say is that once you'll need the full version of that kind of software - no matter which one you're using.

I hope I gave you some answers.

Regards

Thank you systray`!

Your advice was very good!

Can I do some more questions?

I believe that my biggest problem is that Citroen doesn't sell in US nor in Japan and in Europe it isn't a car that people usually "tune", so it is quite hard to find good and reliable information.

Is there a way to be sure if a specific OBD interface will work?

I bought one of thoose generic bluethoot OBD reader from china (http://dx.com/p/super-mini-elm327-bluetooth-odb2-v1-5-car-diagnostic-interface-tool-blue-142679) just to read basic information using TorquePro for Android but it didn't work (could not read ECU).

This is my OBD plug: http://www.system.adm.br/share/OBD_C4Coupe.png

And one last question about the software: if I download an original ECU file (for example, the one uploaded by militarytyt - Peugeot 807 2.2HDI SW 375143) and open it in WinOLS to start studing, is the basic tunning parameters are the same for all ECUs or there are a lot of model specific parameters?

Regards,
mishkiz

I could find only this adapter - KESS OBD TUNING KIT:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-KESS-OBD- ... 0793553775

Does anyone knows what the seller mean with "bootmode"?

BOOTMODE CITROEN IAW 6LP ST10F280 MARELLI IAW 6LP Table
BOOTMODE CITROEN IAW 6LP2 ST10F280 MARELLI IAW 6LP2 Table
BOOTMODE CITROEN IAW 6LPB ST10F280 MARELLI IAW 6LPB Table
BOOTMODE CITROEN IAW 6LPC ST10F280 MARELLI IAW 6LPC Table

boot mode for put out ecu from car and plug wiring your hadrware reader/writer to the ecu and flash it.
for better way to start use mpps v12 or if you don`t want problems buy original tool.

Hello your ECM has a micro citroen ST obd can not read it, you have to use a programmer at the bank by setting the ECU through a pair of resistance from the connector and the ecu have to connect the wires to come into boot mode.
That way you can read the ecm, the MPS from version 5 it reads well for boot mode. I leave here the boot mode of the ecu. from there you'll have to use a modified program can use winols which is one of the best out there for this.
I hope this info helps you

luck
