Hi Guys,
I've got some newbie questions that may be obvious to some but, not so much to me, so any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.
ok, first of all a quick run down, background. I used to own a Dyno shop and have had heaps of experience tuning aftermarket computers, so the fundamentals of how to tune etc are not lost on me.
the vehicle I have- Nissan Navara 2007 D40 with a YD25 common rail diesel Auto, factory fitted with a DPF and EGR.
Denso ECU, part number 23710-4X03A.
what I am trying to achieve, the DPF filter is no longer in existence on this car and as such about every 7000k's I have to clear the DPF fault that comes up (rather annoying) so initially I wish to turn off DPF, the vehicle already has an EGR blanking plate so switching that off isn't a big thing but yeah,
secondly, I'm chasing some better fuel economy, Nissan in there wisdom fire the injectors on the exhaust stroke of the engine to keep the DPF hot, firstly it would make sense that stopping this would greatly improve economy. further more I'm sure touching up the tune and lifting boost levels slightly would result in better fuel economy, and as a by product.... More power (in my experience when things are running 'right' they naturally make more power)
I have done ALLOT of research and allot of reading and I think I have the right idea (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)
the basis of re-programming factory ecu's is as follows.
-use a 'tool' to extract the binary file from the ecu,
-save this bin file to a computer
-use some software to interpret the bin file and make changes that are nessacery,
-save modified bin file
-use a 'tool' to re-flash the modified file to the car
-repeat as required to get the result your chasing.
Now, onto my specific questions,
with the research i have done it seems that the 'tool' required for this ecu is either KTAG or KESS V2, i have conflicting reports as to if KESS V2 will work with this ecu,
1- can someone please verify which 'tool' i should use?
2- the cheaper 'tools' (as sold on sites like uobdii) will they do the job or do i need to get the genuine (assuming) Alientech
with the research i have done it seems like WINOLS is the most common software to modify the maps, i have read the tutorial on how to use the software but my fear is that i wont be able to recognise/find the correct maps,
3- Is WINOLS the software of choice?
4- (i have searched) but does someone have the definition files for this ecu, if not and i cant find them is someone willing to help me find the maps.
5- the extra injection that is done on the exhaust stroke, is it possible to eliminate this or am i just dreaming?
6- how easy/hard is it to actually turn off the DPF functions/ features?
I appreciate any advice or any info on this, and once again apologize if these questions seem obvious to some, once i have the correct information i will go ahead and buy what i need to sort this thing out once and for all.
thanks heaps,
Mick
