BDM for 2007 C5 2.2 HDI Biturbo

Postby rinky » Thu Mar 07, 2019 12:47 pm

Hi there,
this is my first foray into ECUs so be ready for some dumb questions and if I fall foul of any forum rules please forgive me.
I'm trying to use a clone BDM100 to read an EDC16CP39 ECU with the view of an EGR delete. This one:

I've tried the Dimsport and CMD V1255 software but neither of them recognise the ECU.
I get MPC500 Family Version: 0x00020020
MPC563/4 Part number 0x36200000
EPEE Status: 1
Flash identified: M58BW016DB
Unknown famil......
Then in a box the message: Warning: unknown ECU family. Please select a default ECU family and send the file at supporto....
There a three options below the warning so if I choose the first which is 096 EDC16+ VAG (MPC564) I can use the single file
option to read the ECU. All the advanced options to read the flashes and E2PROM remain greyed out. The files that are read by the single file method are separated into a .bin and .e2p file.
There's not a vast amount of C5 biturbos being scrapped so ECUs I think are a bit thin on the ground so obtaining a replacement
will be expensive if I brick this one.
So my questions are if I read back using the VAG family plugin am I likely to brick the ECU? Is anyone aware of software suitable for the clone BDM100 that will read this particular ECU? If not is there another cheap BDM reader that will read it? Any kind of advice will be very welcome. Thanks in advance.

You are getting nowhere because you've got a clone tool... buy a real tool

Hi there. Thanks for the reply. Do you have any recommendations for a suitable piece of equipment? Since my interest
is purely as a hobbyist I'd like to spend as little as possible hence buying the clone tool.

Hi again.

Shooting, I've been hunting a KTAG unit as you suggested but I'm having trouble knowing exactly which unit to purchase. There are the 'green', 'red' and 'purple' units, from what I can see there doesn't appear to be much difference beyond where they were reworked.

In your first response you said we were having issues because we'd bought a clone BDM unit, I'd imagine that a lot of these KTAG's for £50-80 are clones, or is that not the case with the KTAG devices? Are they genuine units that have had work done by people after they were manufactuered, before selling on to us mere mortals?

I suppose what I'm trying to say is, do you have a recommended place to buy one of these units, where it's at least more likely to be a known good working unit that will read a PSA EDC16 CP39?

Thanks ever so much for any advice.

All the cheap ones are clones, the Red board is a euro clone and this isn't too bad..
tho I personally despise clone tools, they do have a place with a hobbyist, or one-off job.
