G'Day from Austraya

Hi guys,
Come to learn from everyone's experience here - forums are a great medium for this sort of thing.

My current project is a 2010 Audi Q5 2.0 TDi quattro S-tronic.
Bit of a back story to this particular vehicle; I bought it from an auction house, it was an insurance job. It appears that the serpentine belt on the front of the engine shredded and possibly some debris got behind the timing belt cover and messed that up too. Someone had done some work on it but didn't do something right with the timing, which resulted in valves contacting pistons. At this point they must have given up on it and quoted a stupid high price to repair it - new engine and all the labour to fit it, and the insurance company just paid out the owner instead.
So I got it a decent price and set about doing the repairs myself - which I'm capable of and have done plenty of similar projects before, just not as modern as this one.
In tearing it down the only physical damage I could find was a tooth chipped off each of the camshaft gears. And that the timing was way out of whack. The two cams could not be synchronised properly. So it would seem one of the cam gears had spun on the shaft (press fit). The valves were all fine and sealing really well despite leaving a faint mark on the tops of the pistons - no indentations. I would have expected some of the rockers to have been bent, they appeared to be fine though.
So I ordered a bunch of parts; both cams, full set of rockers and lifters, gasket set, head bolts, and timing belt kit including water pump.
Spent a lot of time cleaning all the built up soot and oil from the entire intake system - fair bit of carbon build up on the back of the intake valves.
Also fitted a proper crankcase breather oil catch can. Despite VAG's best efforts the system in the rocker cover does not work nearly well enough.

So now that I've got it all back together and running sweet, I am keen to avoid the dreaded oily soot build up again. EGR delete essential.

In the meantime I got a VCDS which was very helpful in pinpointing that timing issue and clearing numerous codes mostly related to a dead battery (it was 9 years old!!) But it's not able to really modify any of the programming.

And hence my arrival here.

I've got a KESS v2 5.017 with Ksuite 2.24 in the hopes of being able to fully read and write the the ecu via OBD. But alas, it seems this car requires the ecu to be removed and opened up to get it into boot mode to read it. So now we're into new territory.....
