I have recently started trying to tune the ECU in my 2001 E39 540i 6-speed manual.
Whilst the Daten files are easy to find and useful when trying different OEM maps, this requires a compatible ECU software already on the ECU, and the BMW software to update the ECU.

I have forced a few different software versions onto my ECU using the BMW software (WINFKP) then boot read the full 512kb file and virginised it so the bin files I am posting can be applied to an ME7.2 ECU via boot made and then just carry out a EWS sync.

This file is software version 7539331_ circa 2001 GOLF (Arab States i believe) E39 540 6 speed manual, full 512kb bootmode and virginised.

This software version without modification allowed me to remove the secondary air injection system and all cats from the exhaust without getting an engine management light.
