I've got the same model, I've done this work on it and it's not too tricky. I've just started here so I'm not in a position to give out much advice yet, but can certainly tell you the steps that I took.

Hi monkeyfeet, mine was registered in 2002 early on in the year. I am happy to learn how to change the ecu code to switch off egr and remove fap, but where to find out how is another matter! Alsorts of misleading or ireleveant to my car info is all over the shop on the net. Can you recommend some sites? I have posted my cars original file to the requests forum just in case someone may fancy helping me out ;)

Ta muchly

Just found this site which looks simple enough using winols to change the egr map so it keeps the erg closed rather than a simple switch off. But if it does the job and causes no error messages when the egr is blanked off then all is good?

https://sites.google.com/site/vagecumap ... ap-changes

Next will be fap off.....

Then maybe have a play with some maps.... :o some higher values here and there eh?

Hi Steve. Right, well sorry if I disappoint, I know that this is a shortcut but I used Galletto and Ecusafe to turn off the egr and FAP. Its simple and quick but you obviously won't get to learn much about coding. However like yourself I want to learn more and just by studying the before and after codes I reckon I'll at least have made a start in that direction :)
If you mod the code to keep the egr closed, and subsequently disconnect the egr solenoid (electrovalve ) - will the ecu throw up a fault versus a simple switch off not throwing a fault?
(well it's this sort of question that I reckon we're after the answers to :D )

Do u have a copy of ecusafe u can email me over? Have u had any fault messages pop up after de fapping and egr offing? Did u disconnect any wires or conectors? I was hoping to leave all as standard except putting n a blanking plate in the egr and putting a big hole through the FAP. So to any future mot inspector it looks standard.

Or I could email u over my file...... :D

Hi,
when you turn off the EGR with switch you can disconnect the electro valve without any errors.
About dpf - you can do it manually or with ECUSAFE - it works ok for that ECU.

About MOT:

You can remove:
EGR
CAT
FAP

and your gasses will be still very very lower than the actually limit is.
Think that Joost (joost-u1976) made a MOT few time ago.

Happy to do with ecusafe but can't buy it as its only meant for commercial use so is expensive. Can't find a cracked copy either, but happy to do it manually anyway it's just finding the info on what to change for dpf removal, egr looks like its a simple single digit change.

Cheers
