shit happens and off course it happened to me. In the middle of flashing the VWmachine running MPPS (clone HW) crashed and then ECU was lost. No connection...no signal ...car did not start. But luckily I had a spare ECU so no problem.
Here comes the fun part now. I opened the ECU and I am going to try to recover the flash. I also removed the eeprom 5p08.
The flash is a 29F400TC. I wil try boot moode connection and see what is the problem. If the flash is not phisically damaged and I will able to connect I will try to flash the map. But my understanding is that the whole flash could be corrupted and I would need to flash the whole content. Unfortunately I do not have the full chip flash file and I ask if you can support me providing this file. I have programmers for the chip but no socket right now. So i hope I will get into the chip via K-line and boot mode. Any help would be appreciated.

no problem I am playing trying to fix but MPPS seems not working. I have read there is a boot option in the meu but I can not find it.
I believe I succeeded to put the flash in boot mode as it apparently gives me some info about the ECU but it stops when flashing showing message "OTPION NOT SUPPORTED".
I am looking for a full flash file to flash the chip.
BTW I will buy another ECU as they ar quite easy and cheap to have...problem is just timing as the country is almost freezed because covid...but as said this is a toy...so no worry. I hope to be back soon.

I have just a general question regarding these ECUs. The model I am using is a 0 281 001 955 and the sofware was 351392.
I know that this unit can come with three SWs being 351392 or 352600 or 351961.
The ECU shell has additional numbers printed on the label as follows:
- 46789433. I wonder what this number is and if it refers to software (I don't think so). I am asking as I find on the market also other ECUs with same 0 281 001 955 but with 46534156 instead of 46789433. Would this ECU (number...156) fit my Punto...I think not.
- 188C324N...must be chassis number.
- 1.9 must be CC.
Last question...if I use another software number will the car work?...can I take same HW part (955) with diffferent SW version (let us say 600) and then map this file?
Off course, I am assuming, I will take my eeprom 5P08 and solder on the ECU to make working with Code.

when buying an ECU, only the HW number 0281001955 is important, but even with a different HW number, it may work.
955-392.rar - this is the full firmware, it must be written to boot (the generic section in mpps edc15C). Eprom does not need to be soldered for boot.

Hi Deman, thanks for your explanation. I am waiting for another ECU to be shipped. In the meantime I am trying to put the chip in boot mode via MPPS->generic but it does not work. I am trying several procedures but no one is working.
I did:
- connection of 12+ to 4 and 58 (also tried a switch between 58 and 12+);
- GND to pin 1;
- K-Line to 48.
- pin 24 from the chip to GND via a push butto so that I can release after xx seconds.
Off course MPPS OBD pins +12 and GND ar connected to the same source of power (stabilised power supply).
Steps as follows after all wiring:
- button from 24 pushed to GND (I also tried with a 5kohm resistor);
- power on;
- 58 connected to 12+;
- wait 5 or 10 or 15 seconds then released.
Is this correct? I also tried removing the 5P08 eeprom but no changes.
BTW my understanding is that the map I am flashing is just a part of the whole flash file and for a full flash a different file is required. I am getting and adapter to try a chip flash. But this comes later.

There is one mistake in the picture. OBD pin 1 is connected to 12+. It is not true, it is a picture taken form the web but I did not do such connection.

pin flash connect to minus via 1 kOhm resistor.
Close the flash pin to minus, then power is supplied to the ECU.
It is important that the 12V power supply is rather pulsed, without galvanic isolation. Therefore, for programming, select a laptop by disconnecting it from the 220V network.

Hi Deman, in the meantime I got another ECU and I flashed your file with Galletto (clone), The car runs very good, good torque, no smoke. Acceleration is good and consistent I could not push very long...I just feel there is a "hiccup"...around 1800/2000 rpm. Other that this very happy.

Back to the boot mode for flashing at the bench, I am rather confused as I did everything very close. I willl do as you suggest...but honestly this is not the first time I do boot on microchip or electronic boards.

One last point about the red engine warning light on the dashboard. As we are aware the CHK is now correct. I believe the reason is coming from the eeprom 5P08C. As explained I had to remove the eeprom from my ECU to copy the file and flash back into the donor ECU eeprom. BTW as this chip is not anymore in the database of any programmer I had to find an equivalent. During this copy from original to donor eeprom, I am quite sure some bits got mixed/misunderstood. As a matter of fact when the program (MPPS or Galletto) reads the information from the eeprom there is one information that is not shown correctly but mixed caracters. I suppose this is the reason of the red warning light due to misinformation. I wil try to understand where the bits are corrupted.

Next thing I am doing, if boot mode isn't working I will desolder the 29f400 and flash through a programmer.
