Long story short, I had a remap, turbo has gone. While I have no idea if the map was at fault, I would like to download the map from the vehicle and potentially pass the map onto someone to check over to make sure there is nothing specifically anything wrong that would cause turbo failure.

I'm assuming I need a USB to ODB2 cable, a Windows Laptop? What software do I need to extract the mappings?

I'll be getting the car repaired, but I'd like to know whether the map ok, or whether I need to have another map done elsewhere. My understanding is that the map on the isn't a live remap, but may have had some parameters tweaked on a rolling road.

You have so many options to do that, however, up to your budget. I suggest you the kess obd original version, it will surely do the trick. The equipment comes with its software, no need to seek out another one.

Looking around, it looks like they're about £70, and I guess I can sell it on when I'm finished to get some money back. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

I'm also assuming you mean MASO Car Kess v2.47?

EDIT: I'm also looking for something I can get delivery fairly quickly. I'm struggling to find anywhere that can delivery Kess quickly in the UK. The car will getting taken away later in the week for repair, and I need to do this before hand.

Stock turbo will fail - journal bearing group quite weak. Your esu seems simos 18 - only boot mode possible read ecu - sadly no cheap options here. Try do datalog - it may reveal tuner approach used - will able to decide smart or dumb one you had :)

I'm not sure what to provide. It is a 2018 Skoda Superb 280 with an IS38 turbo, is that any help. Before mapping the car was putting out 300bhp.

After mapping power output was 340bhp and 460nm torque. I believe boost pressure was 1.6 bar.

I have heard that the IS38 is weak, but tuners are not telling customers this before a remap. I'm currently left with requiring a new turbo and left with potential engine damage, but we won't know until the engine has been investigate.

I have spoke to a number of tuners, some say the IS38 is good for 400bhp and shouldn't fail, another has told me that 1.6 bar boost is far too much on the OEM turbo. I am being given lots of conflicting information.

I was going to get a mobile tuner to come and analyse the map, but I know he will say negative things about the map and suggest he applies his own. So my plan was to extract the map from the vehicle and give it to someone impartial to check over, if at least only to give me confidence in the map again.

you cannot extract it by obd in any way, reading possible only by bench mode or boot mode. even genuine tool cant read it obd .my suggestion is (unless you wanna spend several thousand eur on genuine tool , no clone tool is going to read this probably) to go to your local tuner

The safest way to extract the bin file is to use KTAG MASTER (I dunno if you've got one). Ktag has a capability to create a backup file (if never errors occur). Therefore, it can save 3 files separately, such as, eprom, flash and....it depends. However, with KTAG, you have to work on bench.
