EGR as waste gate?

Postby rapzak » Sun Mar 10, 2013 9:37 pm

Hi,

Right now i have a metal plate in my TDCI1.6 Ford focus to blank of EGR...

But i am a litle nervous if the EGR valve could be used as waste gate, because i started to get high intake pressure warnings.

If i use to edit the ecu will this issue also be there?
Do you know if it is true it is used as waste gate to lower turbo pressure more fast?

You must OFF EGR, and you have no more warnings.

egr is not used as a wastegate, for high pressure limitation map works

Blanking the EGR has nothing to do with turbo spikes. Also you can not use the egr as blow off valve.

Your problem is the turbo it self. To be more specific - your turbine vanes are sticking causing the over boost. Take out the turbo and clean up the internals. The problem will be solved.

Hi,

Thank you for pointing this out.
i new i could find some help here.

But, the turbo was last exchanged with akas console only and i moved the adjustment stuff over, but i did not adjust the vacuum actuator, can this be a problem, and how to deal with it?

Take out the turbo and go to a turbo repair shop. They will adjust everything by the book.

Hi,

Normally they will not touch this turbo (GT1544V), also regarding rework because to many is failing again in the 1.6HDI/TDCI :(
I asked for rework on my first broken turbo... :(

Is there other options / can this be the problem?

First i will see if it runs smooth the adjuster arm..

If you need good rework of turbo that will not fail again than I can help you :) If you still have old broken turbo, than it is possibility to rework it with stronger parts and also better balanced than stock one...

Hi..

Thank you..

I sadly not have a total turbo... i think i have a console...

The one i exchanged to is like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugoet-Citro ... 33805fdc2d
not same seller but from china..
Until know it has driven 22.000km and seems good.
The first turbo was original turbo, but failed arround 20.000km, with high oil change count.
There are some issues with these engines sadly :(
both times i changed them i followed Fords TSB...
Last time i changed DPF as well, UK 2nd production...

The turbo seems good enough, it have a litle turbo spinning sound specially when cold.
but my main problem is the DPF regens as what i think to often... 100-200km max.
Then i started logging data from the ECU and i can see these turbo spikes.

I am so tired of this car just can not run... :(
I will soon look into if the turbo adjuster is working proberly...
Can you describe what the problem maybe is?
the arm is controlled by a vacum "box" which i believe is controlled from a valve and with vacum from the vacum pump.
I believe the turbo pressure is at the highest with most vacum.
Is the problem when i press the clutch and remove the gas pedal, that the turbo can not spin down fast enough or?

I am really happy for all the help i can get :)
The EGR i blanked off with a metal plate and not removed in ECU
