EWS Alignment help

Postby Dziungles » Wed Sep 08, 2021 8:11 am

Good morning
Hope all is well

I'm looking for some help with my 2002 E39 540i (using DME version ME 7.2)

What happened is using clone kess tool I have read the memory and save the original file.
Then tried to install a remapped file (generic one, from internet, I know, I know... )
Anyway all values matched of that file to my original one.

Error occurred during installation and it didn't finish, causing car not to start.
Tried to do recovery and tried to install original file back one - it says unknown ecu.

Put ECU on a bench with k-tag and installed re-map file (original one I saved, seemed corrupted - car wouldn't even crank after install)
After all - while removing the ecu, I found screws and covers missing - so it clearly has been removed in the past, so the "original" file might not even be original...

However now car cranks but won't start, I get an "39" error saying EWS manipulation or something similar.
Also VIN in ECU doesn't match my vehicle's VIN (not sure how that can be changed and if that has any effect on car starting)

If I understand correctly what I need to do is align DME with EWS for my car to start.
I did try to do it using INPA however it says something in German like DME already has value in it, and nothing happens.

Any help please on how can I align/synchronize them? Really hard to find any info online, spent many hours now.

All answers appreciated, excuse my lack of knowledge as you probably find this all stupid.
