I am from south of UK.

I have had a fascination with ECU programming for a while now. I have built some megasquirts in years gone by, and attempted to build my own looks and map my own vehicles, also with aftermarket link ECU. But for factory ECU’s (Fiat, vw, Audi etc), I always need to go to someone else and pay them a small fortune to modify programs. I’m not sure where to get started on factory ECU, so I am here to learn.

The only factory ECU modifications I have done before are through the likes of VCDS and OBDeleven for long coding and basic settings.

As a start I want to learn how to find and modify DTCs. The reason for this is I am always modifying vehicles, and often need a DTC to be removed, but to me, at the moment at least, this seems like wizardry!

Any pointers on resources to start with or software etc would be great. I want software and hardware that can modify any ecu (if possible) as I’d rather not be restricted to only a certain brand.
