Pipe instead of FAP

In my 406 2.2 HDI I've put in deFAPed map and bashed out the FAP two years ago and I'm still driving around with the stupid FAP tube in the middle of my exhaust system. I know it is not the wisest thing to do :oops: , but I'm not sure how the MOT will look at my exhaust with FAP tube missing.. :?

I get some black smoke if I floor it, but I passed last MOT test without problems.

Has anyone removed their FAP/DFP and replaced the whole thing with a pipe, or what :?:

There is no need to. If the FAP canister has ben properly emptied then leaving it in place is as good as removing it. It it not a big impedance to the exhaust gases' flow. ;)

Is there a wrong way to empty the FAP? I've cleaned up everything in the larger part (downstream) of the canister, nothing was left just an empty shell. IIRC, in the smaller (upper) part there was nothing there in the first place. Pressure sensors were left in place.

Although I think now that there is no content in the FAP tube, it makes a bit of an awful sound at > 3500 RPMs, I can't really describe - some pug expert needs to hear it ;) I don't usually go over the 3500 RPMs but when I do I hate it , grrr

That is OK, probably the resonance given by the empty tube can be a consequence of the defapping. But it could also be something else. When remapped the engine sounds different, so you may as well come to like it after a remap. However I strongly advise against you removing it or you'll really struggle through the MOT tests in UK.

True, sound changed after mapping and defapping.

Luckily I'm not doing MOT in UK .. I'm from Slovenia and also I'm not sure how our MOT guys look at missing FAP :?:

What is the business with this in Italy, do you maybe know?

If you put pipe you will get rid of that sound.
Car also goes smoother also less lag.

About "tech" guys in SLO there could be some problems.
In Italy they are very rough :) any change - lots of problems.

As Ecuedit said, they are very strict in Italy; I left the emptied canister in place, without that it is probable I would not pass the MOT-like tests.
