My problem is that the galletto will no longer communicate with the ecu. I have tried it in what I believe is boot mode (by grounding pin 27 confirmed by the fact that the car made a few different noises than normal??).

The galletto I believe is still working as it can read other cars, but I've ordered a replacement anyway for all it costs in case that's the issue. I'm also suspicious that there is an immobiliser problem with the battery having been flattened / disconnected / charged a few times over the last day or two. I've read a few resetting tricks on forums which might fix any potential problems with keys the ecu not recognising keys.

I think the next step is to pull together a bench set-up, if I can flash the ecu on the bench then I will know that the problem must lie elsewhere.

Does anybody have a guide on how to do a bench flash with this ECU and galletto??

You don't have problems with the keys..... its the flash file only. It's not pin 27 but 24 i think. You must read the spec. of the am29f400bt (BT). I have a post here created by me about that ecu and how to recover it. It's here in this section. You must read it, its a new begin.

about the new ECU, you will have problems with the immo.
Two solutions:
1) remove the old one and solder it in the new one. (you can also desolder the am29f400 of the new one and replace the old one and then put back your original file) This chip is only a piece of memory that contains maps.... It can be erase and reprogramed.......
2) read the old one and copy into the new one. But if you have a programer to read it you can read too the 29f400bt and put back your original file.

Just to update this, I eventually was able to get it into boot mode on the bench. It took me to earth the pin, and then keep it earthed until the ecu read began.

exactly the same issue happened to me, 2.2 hdi 406. i am surprised as the person sending it had used it, going to try boot mode tommorow.

I see this post is a bit old, but I will mention it anyway: I did the same "Silly thing" but fortunately I have a KessV2 and the recovery mode through the OBD2 plug work excellent. (Normal write did not.)

I did the same thing on my ex Laguna 1.9 dCi 2002, only that I did not upload a file downloaded from the internet, but the file that I messed up myself.

Bought another ECU (EDC15C3), flashed it with the original file, and it worked just fine.

Recovered the first ECU using Galletto v2 in boot mode.

I sold the car, but I am still selling the second ECU... :?

Did you manage to flash it through the OBD2 port? I mean if you bought a used ECU the keys did not match or?

They did not, but I flashed it through the OBD port using MPPS clone, and the car started normally.

BUT!! I had 2 spare ECUs with the same HW number as the original one - the first one worked OK, the second one didn't. I returned the second one to the seller. Maybe the second ECU was damaged, maybe there is some other reason why it didn't start the engine. The communication went just fine, but the immo light remained lit, although it unlocked the steering wheel, powered up the dash, the low pressure pump, glow plugs, even the starter motor worked, it just didn't start the engine. If the immo doesn't recognise the card, nothing, NOTHING except the immo light doesn't change when you insert the (wrong) card.

The original (bricked) ECU was then flashed at home on the bench using Galletto V2 with its wiring harness connected directly to power supply and K-line pins of the ECU, and the flash chip pin-24 wired to ground. After flashing it with the ori file, the flashing through the OBD port became available too - just like before I bricked it.

For these edc15 you will find easily the dump and program directly
onto the flash
