Here is an example - 0281010314 is Bosch hardware number of the ECU used in E39, E46 and E53 that control M57D30 engines. This engines have 184 or 193 HP depending on the chassis where they are installed and the year of production. To control the same engine with different HP the factory used a lot of different software. So the answer to your question is that almost all the software is different in the same ECU.
Small hint - Do not copy / paste someones tune if you do not understand what is done in the tune. You may end up with broken engine.

Im sure there is some common theme that runs in the files - developers rarely have the time or inclination to reinvent file formats between relatively minor changes in functionality. But its these small changes in such low level data that will catch you.
I can see why so many people get into a lot of trouble by blindly copying files without understanding how they are made up.
