Same adresses at all BMW EDC15?

Postby Amel_B » Tue Sep 09, 2014 12:44 pm

hello

I´m new here in this forum and I am looking for some Answers. Can anybody tell me if every EDC15
has the maps at the same adresses? For me it´s interesting to know if all diesel engines from BMW
do have the maps on the same adress. like those from e39 530d and e39 525d.

Can anybody help me?

No. Almost every software has different addresses.

When you say 'software' do you mean the different versions of the same ecu base type, or does it change just from specific implementation?

i.e., if i have a particular version of firmware, can i say that all maps associated with it should have the same file format?

Thanks for your answer. if I had understand it right this means that the adresses from lets say each 530d/E39/193hp are the same but those of the 525d/E39/163hp are different. ???

Wrong again.

Here is an example - 0281010314 is Bosch hardware number of the ECU used in E39, E46 and E53 that control M57D30 engines. This engines have 184 or 193 HP depending on the chassis where they are installed and the year of production. To control the same engine with different HP the factory used a lot of different software. So the answer to your question is that almost all the software is different in the same ECU.

Small hint - Do not copy / paste someones tune if you do not understand what is done in the tune. You may end up with broken engine.

Ohhh, now I understand. Thank you for your help. This was the answer i´ve looked for. One thing left. In the same chassis, same engine, same transmision and so on the maps are the same and there adresses on the same position?

In the same chassis, same engine, same transmission and same YEAR AND MOUNT OF PRODUCTION the map locations should be 95% the same.

:D :D :D :D There lies the rub!!!
Im sure there is some common theme that runs in the files - developers rarely have the time or inclination to reinvent file formats between relatively minor changes in functionality. But its these small changes in such low level data that will catch you.

I can see why so many people get into a lot of trouble by blindly copying files without understanding how they are made up.

Thank you for your warning but...
I´m not going to copy anything blindly, i just want to know this in order learn how this files are made up and where the differences between different chassis/engines are.
