Over on ecu connections they are saying duty cycle of the solenoid goes to 100% in the absence of the EGR switch being set on.
That is probably not ideal, so unplugging the device is probably more appropriate if the EGR switched off ECU's don't expect a solenoid to be on that ECU output!
I'm not sure why that is the case though, since EGR switch should turn off everything, but someone was saying the fall-back state for EGR was the EGR default duty cycle control map, and if you set that to zero then you can switch off EGR AND leave it plugged in, and get a 0% duty cycle signal (ie, nothing to the solenoid)
Really not sure here but I think unplugging and switching is the safest approach.
